Hraun (Chocolate Lava Bar)

Regular price EUR 4.00

Shipping calculated at checkout.

‘Hraun’ means ‘Lava,’ and this bar is shaped as though a chocolate-spouting volcano erupted over a wafer-field of puffed rice and maize starch (That’s probably how it’s advertised, anyway). The texture is rough, and bits and pieces of puffed rice pop out like a bits of a lava field.

Ingredients:

Sugar, cocoa butter, cocoa liquor, flour, milk powderrice (rice, sugar, salt, malted barley), hydrogenated vegetable fat (coconut- and palm kernel oil), palm kernel oil, starch, leavening agents (E500, E503), emulsifiers (E322 from soy), rapeseed oil, vanillin.

Could contain traces of hazelnuts, almonds and coconuts.

The taste of Icelandic volcano

The package yielded with persistence and the content was as expected - the taste of a hike on a trail near a seismic event

Hraun! Hraun! Hraun!

What can one say? Hraun almost defies description. To call it a mere candy bar would be to rob it of its chthonic properties. Take a bite of Hraun and you're transported to mountainous, windswept lava fields. Take a second bite and huldufólk begin to emerge from hidden crevasses at your feet. And there's no way you'll be able to stop at two; you'll find yourself magically enveloped in Hraun. Geologically speaking, such an occurrence would be cause for notifying the emergency services. Not so with this Hraun. I first encountered it many years ago on my first trip to Iceland. Hraun was responsible for my never wanting to leave Iceland. Well, that plus the gorgeous landscapes, the wonderful people, and a few other things. I've since been back many times, and my first stop would be to pick up some Hraun, of course. Fast-forward to now, when I realised I could get mass quantities of Hraun from the brilliant folks at RG, I nearly went ape-**** with joy! Then, when my package arrived, I did in fact go ape-**** with joy! Now that I've fully grokked all the possibilities (due to my clarity of post-Hraun mind), I plan to have RG keep a steady stream of Hraun flowing in my direction. I hope to someday become a one-man lava field. Lookout, world!
