Iceland in World War II - A Blessed War

Author: G. Jökull Gíslason

This books provides an insight into the role Iceland played in the World War II. As a nation without an army one would expect they weren't involved at all but the geographical situation of the country between America and Europe made it a hugely important strategic asset for the Allied forces to control.

It is no secret that the heavy presence of allied troops in Iceland actually lifted the country (that at the time was one of the poorest in Europe) into the modern era. Not only did the English and the American armies build important infrastructure here not present before the war, but there was also plenty of employment for Icelanders around the military presence and that proved important for the newly independent nations economy.
